Appearance of Milk-Teeth – Important Phase in Infants Life

Also known as deciduous or temporary teeth, milk teeth are the first set of teeth Infant may have. They are total 20 and start developing during pregnancy but appear in the mouth during infancy. They normally come out as pairs but it varies from case to case that whether it first appears in lower jaw or upper. The first pair of teeth comes out during 6 to 12 months and then the process of teeth development starts and usually ends till 33 – 34 months. It is a natural process but is difficult and sometimes painful but nevertheless it’s a crucial time for a child.

Mothers are always worried about managing teething issues. Nearly all kids may face excessive saliva secretion from their mouth during the process. They may feel irritation in the gums and rub it with anything within their reach and even with their fingers. Sometimes they may feel red and heated cheeks and have restlessness. The teething process may leave them fidgety and they may have uncomfortable sleep. Some kids may face diarrhea and vomiting and it is very important to give them as much liquid as possible. Babies who are feeding on their mother’s milk may desire to have it more during this process. These all symptoms may stay for 2-3 days till the teeth rupture the jaw surface.

To help child go about teething process smoothly and easily you must treat them with utmost care and attention; more than what you usually treat them with. Most of the children do not require the assistance of doctor in teething issues as the symptoms go away in a few days. What you need to do is:
·    Keep child’s mouth dry by rubbing it with a soft cloth.
·    Keep them breast feeding.
·    Take them out for fun.
·    Little castor oil can help keep the bowels relaxed.
·    Sponge their face with cold water to relax heat feeling (if your child shows this symptom)
·    Give them more liquid than usual to cope up with water loss issues due to vomiting and diarrhea.
·    Provide them with something to apply gentle pressure on their teeth so that they may feel comfortable. Clean finger of mother can also give soothing effect.

If the child suffers from a little fever ibuprofen or Panadol may work. Don’t get frustrated or tensed, deal with it calmly; it is just a temporary phase!
