Starting Infant on Solids?
Since I may be starting my son on solids soon, I was looking in the baby food isle at the grocery store. I actually have not done this until yesterday since he’s been on breast milk only. Holy cow the choices!! They had single grain cereals, oatmeal, whole wheat oatmeal, and I could go on! It was almost overwhelming the options. My question is, what did you start your Infant on? Was it single grain cereal, oatmeal, whole wheat oatmeal…or something else like those jars of baby food?
My son has his four month check-up today and I’m going to see what his doctor recommends; i.e. starting now or in a couple of months and what to start him on. I’m just looking to hear what experienced moms have done with their kids.
Thanks!
It’s best for your baby if you wait until closer to 6 months to start any sort of solid.
IF you absolutely think your baby needs solids at 4 months then start off with a rice cereal. They are pretty bland and will be easiest on your baby’s belly.
We waited until Noah was 6 months to start solids. I tried the jarred foods for a week or so and then switched over to making his food myself(buying fresh fruits and veggies and blending them up). This way I know exactly what’s going in his foods, it’s fresher, and it’s a lot cheaper(I got 3 months worth of food for $20). I give him a small amount of veggies and a small amount of fruit at dinner with his bottle. When introducing solids make sure your baby has their formula/breast milk FIRST and then try the solid food because they are just for practice and to get the “feel” for them, formula or breast milk still need to be your baby’s main source of nutrition.
